This is looking nice. It's painterly with just enough detail to feel more than a comp image. I think what I would like to see is a few sections that seem to have a lavish amount of attention applied. Some parts where it looked like you just really got into the jewel-like quality of an eye, or a few flecks of saliva rolling off the teeth.
IMHO, a cover should have a few places where the eye just wants to linger and soak in the pleasure of seeing how a person painted certain passages. A couple of those would really complete this image. The color balance is much nicer overall, the light and darks give it a good energy and although it's more tightly rendered it feels fresh.
